PoolCoach
Training analysis for 9-ball pool.
Film your shots with a phone, then see the speed, direction and spin of every shot.
Three steps
-
Film at the table
Put the phone where it sees the whole table and record a rack or a whole practice session.
-
Upload
Mark the four corners of the table once. PoolCoach finds and cuts every shot in the video.
-
Look at every shot
A list of shots with speed, direction, spin and the paths of the balls on the table; watch the whole session again in the Library.
What PoolCoach measures
Speed V0
How fast the cue ball leaves the tip, in m/s.
Direction φ
Where the cue ball heads on the table, in degrees.
Spin (a, b)
Where the tip met the cue ball: side spin, and top or back spin.
Paths on the table
The paths of the cue ball and the balls it hits, drawn again on a standard table.
Replay in simulation
The shot played again in a physics simulation, to set beside the video.
PoolCoach is the research project of a Master's thesis in Computer Science at UIT, and it is in beta. The model's numbers come with a confidence level; treat them as one more view of your practice, not as a coach's eye.
